San Jose Report, 2009 CME Newsletter, 2009
The Vascular Biology Working GroupSM (VBWG) is pleased to present the results of the Evidence-Based Recommendations in Hyperglycemia and Acute Coronary Syndromes Clinical Workshop series held in 8 cities across the United States.

The goals of the Clinical Workshop series were to:
  • Discuss the evidence that led to the development of the 7 recommendations published in the 2008 American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Statement on Hyperglycemia and Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS)
  • Review the critical gaps in clinical evidence around the current inpatient hyperglycemia treatment paradigm
  • Foster an open dialogue on the practical aspects of in-hospital glucose monitoring and management in both diabetic and nondiabetic patients
  • Reinforce the need to engage the healthcare team (ie, physicians and critical care nurses) in ensuring successful implementation of insulin infusion protocols
  • Identify barriers to successful protocol implementation
Clinical Workshop host cities were identified as regions of interest through a clinical practice needs assessment with an emphasis on identifying regional practice strengths and weaknesses.
