SPORTIF V: Incidence of hemorrhage
- Intracranial hemorrhage occurred in 0.06% of each arm.1
- Major bleeding (defined as either (1) associated with a decrease in hemoglobin >2 g/dL, (2) necessitating transfusion of >2 units, or (3) involving a critical site such as intracranial) occurred in 2.4% and 3.1% of ximelagatran and warfarin patients, respectively, a nonsignificant difference.
- Combined major or minor bleeding occurred significantly less often in ximelagatran patients: 37% and 47%, respectively (P < 0.0001).
