Ranolazine clinical trial program in chronic stable angina
- The anti-ischemic effect of ranolazine in stable CAD patients with symptomatic chronic angina has been studied as a series of clinical trials: MARISA (as monotherapy), CARISA (in combination with other antianginal agents), and ERICA (in combination with amlodipine 10 mg):
- MARISA: 191 patients received monotherapy with ranolazine twice daily in 500, 1000, or 1500 mg doses, or placebo; each dose was administered for 1 week in a double-blinded, crossover design.
- CARISA: 823 patients received ranolazine 750 mg or 1000 mg twice daily doses, or placebo, in addition to standard doses of atenolol (50 mg daily), amlodipine (5 mg daily), or diltiazem (180 mg daily) in a 12-week crossover study.
- ERICA: 565 patients receiving amlodipine 10 mg were randomized to placebo or ranolazine 500 mg twice daily for 1 week and then ranolazine 1000 mg twice daily for 6 weeks.
