NF- kB activation in diabetic nephropathy
- Mezzano et al also demonstrated activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB).1 Activated NF-kB was mainly detected in tubular epithelial cells and, to a lesser extent, in glomerular and interstitial cells.
- Oxidative stress, which occurs early in the progression of insulin resistance to diabetes, activates NF-kB. The data from Mezzano et al implicate renal RAAS activation as another mechanism for NF-kB activation.
